CRUEL SUMMER

Episode 1 — The Photograph

The summer began with a lie.

At least, that was what Maya would later tell herself.

One year after leaving Lakewood, Maya returned to the town she had promised never to visit again. The streets looked almost exactly the same—the little cafés beside the lake, the old amusement park, and the wooden pier where she and her friends had spent nearly every evening during the previous summer.

But Maya had changed.

She no longer trusted her memories.

Her mother's car stopped outside their old summer house.

Maya stepped out and looked toward the lake.

For a moment, everything felt peaceful.

Then her phone vibrated.

UNKNOWN NUMBER:

You came back.

Maya stared at the screen.

She typed:

Who is this?

No answer came.

She put her phone away.

“Welcome home,” her mother called from the doorway.

Maya forced a smile.

“Thanks.”

That evening, she walked toward the lake.

She wasn't expecting anyone.

But Emma was already sitting on the pier.

“Maya?”

Maya stopped.

Emma stood up and smiled.

“I thought you weren't coming back.”

“I didn't think I was.”

For a few seconds, neither of them spoke.

Then Emma hugged her.

“It's been a year.”

“I know.”

They sat beside the water.

Soon Noah arrived, carrying two drinks.

“Look who's finally alive,” he joked.

Maya laughed.

For the first time in a year, the four friends were together again.

Emma.

Noah.

Lily.

And Maya.

Lily arrived a few minutes later.

She looked at Maya carefully.

“You okay?”

“Yeah.”

Lily smiled.

“Good. Because this summer is going to be different.”

Maya looked at the lake.

“Hopefully.”

None of them noticed the person standing far away near the trees.

Watching them.

---

Later that night, they returned to the summer house.

Emma found an old cardboard box under the bed.

“What's this?”

Maya opened it.

Inside were dozens of photographs from the previous summer.

They began laughing as they looked through them.

Then Maya stopped.

One photograph made her blood run cold.

It showed the four of them standing beside the lake.

But there was someone else in the background.

A girl.

Long dark hair.

A pale dress.

Standing several metres behind them.

Maya frowned.

“Who is she?”

Noah immediately stopped smiling.

Emma looked at him.

“Noah?”

“I don't know.”

Lily reached for the photograph.

Her face changed.

“You've seen her before,” Maya said.

“No.”

“Lily.”

“I said no.”

Maya turned the photograph over.

There was handwriting on the back.

Six words.

YOU PROMISED YOU WOULD FORGET ME.

The room became completely silent.

Maya looked at her friends.

“What does that mean?”

Nobody answered.

Then her phone vibrated.

Another message.

UNKNOWN NUMBER:

Do you remember what happened at the lake?

Maya slowly raised her eyes.

Noah was staring at her phone.

“How did they know?”

Maya looked toward the window.

The curtains moved slightly.

Someone was standing outside.

She ran to the door.

Nothing.

Only the empty road.

And the sound of the lake.

When she returned inside, the photograph was gone.

Maya looked at Emma.

“Where is it?”

Emma's face went pale.

“I didn't take it.”

Lily whispered:

“Maya…”

“What?”

Lily pointed toward the

 table.

The photograph was there again.

But something had changed.

The mysterious girl in the background was no longer looking toward the camera.

She was looking directly at Maya.

CUT TO BLACK.

Episode 2 — The Missing Night

The next morning, Maya woke up before sunrise.

She had barely slept.

The photograph from the previous night was lying on her desk.

She stared at it.

The mysterious girl was still there.

But now Maya noticed something she hadn't seen before.

A small silver bracelet was visible on the girl's wrist.

Maya recognized it.

She had seen the same bracelet before.

On Lily.

---

At school, Maya found Lily alone in the hallway.

“Where did you get that bracelet?”

Lily looked at her wrist.

“This?”

“Yes.”

Lily became uncomfortable.

“My grandmother gave it to me.”

“When?”

“Last summer.”

Maya's expression changed.

“Were you wearing it the night we took that photograph?”

Lily paused.

“I don't remember.”

“You said you remembered everything.”

“I said I remembered most of it.”

Before Maya could ask another question, the school bell rang.

Lily walked away.

Maya watched her disappear into the crowd.

Something wasn't right.

---

That afternoon, Maya met Emma and Noah at the old café near the lake.

She placed the photograph on the table.

“We need to remember that night.”

Noah immediately shook his head.

“Why?”

“Because none of us remembers what happened after midnight.”

Emma looked confused.

“What do you mean?”

Maya opened her phone.

“I checked the dates. The photograph was taken at 11:42 PM.”

She showed them another picture.

The next photograph was taken at 3:18 AM.

“There are almost four hours missing.”

Noah became silent.

Maya looked at him.

“You know something.”

“No.”

“Noah.”

“I don't remember.”

Emma leaned forward.

“Maybe we were drunk.”

Maya frowned.

“I don't drink.”

“Neither do I,” Emma said.

Noah looked toward the window.

Then he whispered:

“We weren't alone.”

Maya froze.

“What?”

Noah looked at both girls.

“There was someone else with us.”

“Who?”

“I don't know.”

“You just said there was someone else.”

“I remember a voice.”

“What did it say?”

Noah swallowed.

“It told us to leave the lake.”

---

That evening, Maya returned home and searched through her old phone.

She found an old video from that night.

The screen showed the four friends laughing beside the lake.

Emma was dancing.

Noah was filming.

Lily was sitting near the water.

Maya was talking to the camera.

Everything seemed normal.

Then the video suddenly froze.

11:47 PM.

The screen went black.

Maya tried to continue the video.

Nothing.

The next recording started at 3:18 AM.

Maya watched carefully.

The four friends were standing on the pier.

Nobody was speaking.

Nobody was smiling.

And Lily was crying.

Maya's heart started beating faster.

She zoomed in.

Behind them stood the mysterious girl.

Maya paused the video.

The girl was looking directly at the camera.

Then Maya noticed something else.

The girl's hand was pointing toward the lake.

Maya whispered:

“What happened here?”

Her phone suddenly rang.

Unknown number.

She answered.

“Hello?”

Silence.

Then a girl's voice whispered:

“You weren't supposed to remember.”

The call ended.

Maya stared at the phone.

A second later, another message appeared.

UNKNOWN NUMBER:

Ask Lily what happened at 12:13.

Maya immediately called Lily.

No answer.

She called again.

Still nothing.

Then Maya received a final message.

UNKNOWN NUMBER:

Don't trust the person standing beside you.

Maya slowly looked behind her.

Someone was standing in the doorway.

It was Lily.

Her face was pale.

“Maya,” she whispered.

“You need

to tell me what happened at 12:13.”

Lily said nothing.

Then she quietly replied:

“I thought you remembered.”

Maya stared at her.

“Remember what?”

Lily's eyes filled with fear.

“The girl in the photograph.”

CUT TO BLACK.

CRUEL SUMMER

Episode 3 — Different Memories

Lily stood in Maya's doorway, unable to speak.

Maya stared at her.

“Who is the girl?”

Lily looked away.

“You really don't remember?”

“No. That's why I'm asking you.”

Lily slowly stepped inside.

“She was called Sienna.”

Maya felt a strange chill.

“Sienna who?”

“Sienna Vale.”

“Was she our friend?”

Lily shook her head.

“No. Not exactly.”

Maya frowned.

“Then why was she with us?”

Lily didn't answer.

Before Maya could ask again, footsteps came from downstairs.

Emma and Noah entered the house.

Noah stopped when he saw Lily.

“You told her?”

Lily looked at him.

“She deserves to know.”

Maya looked between them.

“What are you hiding?”

Nobody answered.

Finally, Emma sat down.

“Okay. We tell her everything we remember.”

Maya grabbed a notebook.

“Fine.”

Emma went first.

“That night, we were at the lake until around midnight. Sienna came there.”

“What did she want?”

“I don't know. She was angry.”

Noah interrupted.

“She wasn't angry at everyone.”

Maya looked at him.

“Who was she angry with?”

Noah stayed silent.

Maya wrote it down.

Sienna was angry with someone.

Lily spoke next.

“She gave us something.”

“What?”

“A phone.”

Maya looked up.

“What was on it?”

“Videos.”

Noah suddenly stood.

“That's enough.”

“No,” Maya said. “It's not.”

She turned toward him.

“You've known this whole time.”

Noah shook his head.

“I remembered pieces. That's all.”

“Then tell me your piece.”

Noah looked at the floor.

“I remember Sienna saying one thing.”

“What?”

“She said someone had been following us.”

Silence filled the room.

Maya looked at Emma.

“Did you know?”

Emma shook her head.

“No.”

Maya turned toward Lily.

“And you?”

Lily whispered:

“I knew.”

Maya's expression hardened.

“You lied to me.”

“I was scared.”

“Of Sienna?”

Lily shook her head.

“Of the person Sienna was afraid of.”

Suddenly, Maya's phone buzzed.

A new photograph appeared on the screen.

It showed the four friends standing beside the lake.

The date was written underneath:

JULY 18 — 12:13 AM

Maya stared at it.

“That's impossible.”

Emma leaned closer.

“What?”

Maya zoomed in.

In the background was Sienna.

And beside her stood another person.

Their face was hidden by darkness.

But Maya recognized the jacket.

She slowly looked at Noah.

“You were wearing that jacket.”

Noah's face went pale.

“I don't remember.”

“You were there.”

“I said I don't remember!”

The room fell silent.

Then Lily whispered:

“You weren't the one who took the photograph.”

Maya turned toward her.

“Then who did?”

Lily looked at the window.

“The person who was watching us.”

A loud knock came from the front door.

Everyone froze.

Another knock.

Maya slowly walked toward it.

She opened the door.

Nobody was there.

Only a small envelope lay on the ground.

Inside was a memory card.

Maya took it upstairs and put it into her laptop.

One video appeared.

The date was July 18.

She pressed play.

The camera showed the lake.

Then Sienna appeared.

She looked directly into the camera.

“If you're watching th

is,” she said, “one of them has already betrayed you.”

The video ended.

Maya looked at her friends.

Nobody spoke.

Then her laptop screen turned black.

A final message appeared:

YOU REMEMBER TOO MUCH.

CUT TO BLACK.

END OF EPISODE 3

CRUEL SUMMER

Episode 4 — The Girl in the Picture

The message on Maya's laptop remained on the screen.

YOU REMEMBER TOO MUCH.

Nobody moved.

Noah finally closed the laptop.

“We need to stop.”

Maya stared at him.

“Stop what?”

“Looking for answers.”

“Why?”

“Because whoever is doing this knows where we live.”

Emma looked toward the window.

“He's right.”

Maya shook her head.

“No. That's exactly what they want.”

Lily looked at her.

“What?”

“They want us to be scared.”

Maya picked up the memory card.

“So I'm not stopping.”

---

The next morning, Maya went to the town library.

She searched through old newspapers for Sienna Vale.

After almost an hour, she found something.

A newspaper article from the previous summer.

LOCAL TEEN REPORTED MISSING

Maya read the article carefully.

Sienna had disappeared three days after the night at the lake.

But there was another detail.

The article mentioned that Sienna had been investigating a series of anonymous recordings sent to students.

Maya's heart raced.

She took a picture of the article.

Then she noticed another name.

Lily Carter.

Maya stared at the screen.

Lily had spoken to the police after Sienna disappeared.

But she had never told Maya.

---

Maya immediately called Lily.

“Where are you?”

“At home.”

“I'm coming over.”

“Why?”

“You know why.”

Silence.

Then Lily whispered:

“Okay.”

---

When Maya arrived, Lily was sitting beside the window.

Maya placed the newspaper article on the table.

“You knew about Sienna.”

Lily looked at it.

“Yes.”

“Why didn't you tell us?”

“Because Sienna asked me not to.”

“What was she investigating?”

Lily took a deep breath.

“Someone was secretly recording us.”

Maya remembered the old video.

“Why?”

“We don't know.”

“Then what happened that night?”

Lily looked down.

“Sienna found out who was behind it.”

“Who?”

“I never saw their face.”

“But you know something.”

Lily nodded.

“Sienna gave me a phone.”

“The phone from the lake?”

“Yes.”

“Where is it?”

“I lost it.”

Maya stared at her.

“You lost it?”

“No.”

Lily's voice became quieter.

“Someone took it.”

---

That evening, Maya, Emma, Noah, and Lily returned to the old pier.

Maya brought the photograph.

“Look carefully.”

They stood around it.

Emma pointed toward the background.

“There's Sienna.”

Noah looked closer.

“And someone beside her.”

Maya turned the brightness up on her phone.

The person's face became slightly clearer.

Lily suddenly stepped back.

“No.”

Maya looked at her.

“What?”

“I know that jacket.”

“Whose?”

Lily didn't answer.

Then Noah said:

“Mine.”

Everyone looked at him.

Noah shook his head.

“But I wasn't there.”

Maya stared at the photograph.

“Then how is your jacket in the picture?”

Noah had no answer.

A sound came from the trees.

Everyone turned.

Someone ran between the trees.

Maya followed.

She reached the edge of the forest.

There was nobody there.

Only a small silver bracelet lying on the ground.

The same bracelet from the photograph.

Maya picked it up.

Then she heard a voice behind her.

“You shouldn't have come back.”

Maya turned.

Sienna was standing several metres away.

Alive.

Maya couldn't speak.

“Sienna?”

Sienna looked frightened.

“Don't trust them.”

“Who?”

Sienna looked toward the others.

Then she whispered:

“One of your friends knows exactly what happened that night.”

Before Maya could ask another question, Sienna disappeared into the darkness.

Maya returned to the pier.

Emma, Noah, and Lily were waiting.

She looked at each of them.

For the first time, she didn't know which o

ne to trust.

Then her phone vibrated.

A new message appeared.

UNKNOWN NUMBER:

Now you know she's alive.

But you still don't know why she disappeared.

Maya looked at the lake.

A second message arrived.

NEXT TIME, ASK NOAH.

CUT TO BLACK.

END OF EPISODE 4

CRUEL SUMMER

Episode 5 — The Betrayal

The message remained on Maya's phone.

NEXT TIME, ASK NOAH.

Maya looked at Noah.

“What happened that night?”

Noah didn't answer.

Emma stepped forward.

“Noah, tell her.”

He looked at Lily.

“You knew too.”

Lily's voice trembled.

“Not everything.”

Maya became frustrated.

“Everyone keeps saying that. Nobody tells me anything.”

Noah finally spoke.

“Sienna found the person who was recording us.”

“Who?”

“I don't know.”

“You're lying.”

“No. I'm not.”

Noah reached into his jacket and pulled out an old phone.

Maya stared at it.

“The phone Sienna gave Lily?”

Lily looked shocked.

“You said you lost it.”

“I found it.”

“Where?”

“Under the pier.”

Maya took the phone.

It had only one video.

She pressed play.

The recording showed Sienna standing beside the lake.

She was speaking to someone whose face couldn't be seen.

“You promised you would stop.”

A voice answered:

“You should have stayed quiet.”

Sienna stepped backward.

Then the recording ended.

Maya looked at Noah.

“Who was that?”

“I don't know.”

Suddenly, Emma grabbed the phone.

“I've heard that voice before.”

Everyone turned toward her.

“Where?”

Emma looked terrified.

“At the summer house.”

Maya frowned.

“When?”

“The night Sienna disappeared.”

Silence.

Maya slowly realized something.

“Then why did you tell us you didn't remember?”

Emma looked down.

“Because I was scared.”

“Of who?”

Emma didn't answer.

Her phone suddenly rang.

She looked at the screen.

Unknown number.

She answered.

A voice whispered:

“You have five minutes.”

The call ended.

Maya stepped closer.

“What did they say?”

Emma's hands were shaking.

“They know we found the phone.”

---

The four friends returned to the summer house.

Maya locked the door.

“No one leaves until we figure this out.”

Noah looked through the old photographs.

“There has to be something.”

Lily suddenly found a photograph hidden behind a drawer.

It showed Sienna and the four friends.

On the back was a date.

ONE DAY BEFORE THE LAKE.

Maya turned it over.

There was another message.

ONE OF THEM BROUGHT HER HERE.

Everyone looked at each other.

Then Maya noticed something.

A small reflection in the window behind them.

Someone was standing outside.

She turned around.

The window was empty.

But the front door slowly opened.

Nobody was there.

A folded note lay on the floor.

Maya picked it up.

ASK LILY WHY SHE LIED.

Maya looked at Lily.

“Why did you lie?”

Lily's eyes filled with tears.

“I didn't want you to remember.”

“Remember what?”

Lily whispered:

“Sienna didn't disappear because she was afraid of someone.”

Maya waited.

“She disappeared because she discovered the truth about one of us.”

“Who?”

Lily looked at Noah.

Noah's face went pale.

“Lily…”

She shook her head.

“I can't protect you anymore.”

Maya turned toward Noah.

“What did you do?”

Noah stepped backward.

“I didn't hurt anyone.”

“I didn't ask that.”

Noah looked at the floor.

Then he finally said:

“I was the one who invited Sienna to the lake.”

Maya froze.

“Why?”

“Because she wanted to meet whoever was recording us.”

“And you knew who it was?”

Noah didn't answer.

Maya understood.

“You knew.”

Before Noah could speak, the lights suddenly went out.

A phone screen illuminated the room.

A video began playing automatically.

It showed the lake.

Then Sienna appeared.

She looked directly at the camera.

“If you're watching this, I'm sorry.”

The video stopped.

A final sentence appeared on the screen:

THE BETRAYAL WAS NEVER ABOUT SIENNA.

Maya looked at her friends.

“What does that mean?”

From outside came a quiet voice.

“Maya.”

She recognized it immediately.

Sienna.

Maya opened the door.

Sienna was standing across the road.

She held up a second phone.

“Come alone.”

Maya stepped outside.

Then Sienna added:

“Because the person you trust most is the person who started all of this.”

Maya turned around.

Behind her stood Emma, Noah, and Lily.

One of them was smiling.

CUT TO BLACK.

END OF EPISODE 5

CRUEL SUMMER

Episode 6 — The Truth

Maya stood outside the summer house, staring at Sienna.

“You said one of them started everything.”

Sienna nodded.

“Yes.”

“Who?”

Sienna looked past Maya toward the house.

“Emma.”

Maya froze.

“Emma?”

Sienna nodded.

“She found my recordings last summer. She was afraid I'd show them to everyone, so she created a story that made all of us think someone else was watching us.”

Maya couldn't believe it.

“But why?”

“Because she wanted to protect a secret.”

Maya turned toward the house.

Emma was standing in the doorway.

Her expression was calm.

“You always were good at finding things, Maya.”

Maya stepped back.

“What secret?”

Emma looked at Noah and Lily.

“They know.”

Noah lowered his head.

Lily whispered:

“We should have told you.”

Maya felt betrayed.

“You all knew?”

Emma walked closer.

“Sienna discovered that the recordings weren't made by a stranger.”

She held up an old phone.

“They were made by Noah.”

Maya looked at Noah.

“What?”

Noah shook his head.

“I only recorded conversations. I never meant to hurt anyone.”

Sienna interrupted.

“And Emma used those recordings to control the story.”

Emma's expression changed.

“I was trying to protect everyone.”

“You lied to all of us,” Maya said.

Emma looked at her.

“Because the truth would have destroyed us.”

Maya stared at the four friends.

Then Sienna showed her the final recording.

It contained the missing part of that night.

The four friends had argued with Sienna at the lake.

Nobody had been harmed.

Sienna had simply decided to leave Lakewood after realizing she couldn't trust them.

She had secretly kept copies of the recordings as proof.

Maya finally understood why her memories had been confused.

There had never been a missing mystery.

There had been a missing truth.

---

Weeks later, Lakewood felt different.

The four friends no longer spent every evening together.

Emma left town.

Noah apologized.

Lily finally told Maya everything she remembered.

And Sienna stayed in Lakewood.

One evening, Maya returned to the pier alone.

She looked at the old photograph.

For the first time, she wasn't afraid of it.

She turned it over.

There was no mysterious message.

Only the date.

JULY 18.

Maya smiled faintly.

Then her phone vibrated.

Unknown number.

One final message appeared:

“You found the truth.”

Maya stared at the screen.

Another message appeared.

“But you never asked who took the first photograph.”

Maya slowly looked toward the lake.

The pier was empty.

Then she noticed a camera sitting on the wooden railing.

She picked it up.

There was one photograph inside.

Maya pressed the button.

The photograph appeared.

It showed her standing alone on the pier.

But the picture had been taken from behind her.

Someone had been there.

Watching.

Maya turned around.

Nobody.

The lake was completely still.

She looked back a

t the photograph.

Written across the bottom were four words:

“SUMMER ISN'T OVER YET.”

Maya's phone slipped from her hand.

The screen went black.

CUT TO BLACK.
